63rd National Film Awards conferred by the President

On May 3 2016, the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee conferred the 63rd edition of the National Film Awards for 2015 under numerous categories. The event also witnessed the distribution of Dada Saheb Phalke Award and was conferred by the President to retired Bollywood actor Manoj Kumar. The event declared Amitabh Bachchan as the best actor for his contribution in the movie Pikum, whereas the award for the best actress was given to Kangana Ranaut for her role in Tanu Weds Manu Returns. The award for the best movie was given to Baahubali: The Beginning.

Niryat Bandhu and Niryat Shree Awards confers by Pranab Mukherjee

On 4th May 2016, Pranab Mukherjee conferred the 15th FIEO (Federation of Indian Export Organizations) Niryat Bandhu and Niryat Shree Awards in the capital city, New Delhi. These awards were given during FIEO’s Golden Jubilee celebration. These awards are given to the organizations from different export sectors, service provider banks and various facilitating firms who promoted exports during year 2015-16. The two major award recipients were Reliance Industry and TCS. Reliance was awarded top FE (foreign Exchange) earner as well as the leader exporter in the past 50 years. TCS was given the ‘Gold Award’ for its IT services.

Parashar Kulkarni grabs 2016 CSSP (Commonwealth Short Story Prize) for the Asia Region

Parashar Kulkari has been conferred with the 2016 CSSP (Commonwealth Short Story Prize) Award for the Asia Region. The award was given for his unpublished and politically grounded short fiction named ‘Cow and Company.’ He will be receiving 2500 pounds as cash prize. The story talks about four men searching for a cow and is full of twisted plots. It also shows connections between commercial interests and culture.

MP Tourism awarded ‘Best Indian Destination for Wildlife’ Award

On 9th May 2016, the MPT (Madhya Pradesh Tourism) was awarded the Best Indian Destination for Wildlife’ Award. LP (Lonely Planet) Group presented this award. The award was presented by Amy Jackson, Indian Address during an event in Mumbai. As per SFR (State of Forest Report) report estimates, total area in MP covered by forests is around 24.7 percent of total land area. There are total 25 Wildlife Sanctuaries in MP which includes 9 national parks. National Parks such as Satpura, Panna, Pench, Kanha and Bandhavgarh are project tiger regions.

IAF ‘Hall of Fame’ Award conferred to an Indian for the first time

The ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) on 14th May 2016 announced that UR Rao, renowned space scientist will be conferred with the IAF (International Astronautical Federation) ‘Hall of Fame’ Award for the year 2016. He will be given this prestigious award for his significant contribution to astronautics and its progress with the IAF’s framework of activities. The award will be given to the scientist during the 67th IAC (International Astronautical Congress) event, which will be held in Mexico.

Han Kang, author from South Korea wins 2016 MBI (Man Booker International) Prize for the novel ‘The Vegetarian’

On 16th May 2016, Han Kand was honored with the prestigious Man Booker International-Prize, 2016 for the novel ‘The Vegetarian’. Han is an author from South Korea and with this award; she becomes the first author from South Korea to receive this prize. The event took place in London at the VA (Victoria & Albert) Museum. The prize money for this award is 72000 Dollars which will be shared by Han and Deborah Smith, the British translator. The novel is about a wife deciding to give up non-vegetarian food who suffers cruelty from father and husband. ‘The Vegetarian’ is Han’s first novel.

Barack Obama presents ‘US National Medal of Science’, 2015 to Indian-American professor Rakesh Jain

On 19th May 2016, President of the United States, Barack Obama presented the ‘US National Medal of Science’, 2015 to Indian-American professor Rakesh Jain. Jain received this honor with 16 other honorees of the NMS (National Medal of Science) and NMTI (National Medal of Technology and Innovation) during a ceremony at the White House. Jain works as Harvard Medical School’s professor and is also the director of TBL (Tumor Biology Laboratory) at the MGH (Massachusetts General Hospital). He received this honor for his significant contributions in the field of tumor biology, in-vivo imaging, bioengineering and drug delivery.

Mukesh Ambani conferred with ‘Othmer Gold Medal’ for his Entrepreneurial Leadership

On 17th May 2016, Chairman and MD (Managing Director) of RIL (Reliance Industries Limited) Mukesh Ambani was conferred with ‘Othmer Gold Medal’ for his Leadership in the entrepreneurial sector. The award was given by the US based CHF (Chemical Heritage Foundation). CEO and President of CHF Carsten Reinhardt presented this honor to Ambani during the CHF Heritage Day occasion at Philadelphia, USA. Ambani was conferred with this award due to his significant entrepreneurial leadership that contributed in various significant landmarks such as expansion of the Indian PRI (Petroleum Refinery Industry), creation of Gujarat Jamnagar Refinery (World’s largest grassroots petroleum refinery) as well as path breaking initiatives across oil & gas explorations.

Engineer from US, Frances Arnold became the first woman ever to win the Millennium Technology Award

On 24th May 2016, noted innovation and engineer from America Frances Arnold was awarded with the MTP (Millenium Technology Prize), 2016. The MTP is among the largest and most renowned technology award across the globe. Since its inception 12 years back, Arnold became the first women ever to win this prize. The prize was declared by TAF (Technology Academy Finland) and the prize amount is one million euros.  Arnold is a biochemical expert and received the prize for her significant discoveries that lead to the initiation of directed evolution field, mimicking natural evolution process for creating newer and more enhanced proteins in labs.

Sunil B. Mittal conferred with 2016 ‘Harvard Alumni’ Award

On 26th May 2016, Chairman and Founder of Bharti Enterprises Sunil B. Mittal was conferred with the prestigious HBSAAA (Harvard Business School Alumni Achievement Award) or ‘Harvard Alumni’ Award for the year 2016. A total of five recipients were chosen for this award. The recipients were Thomas Tierne (former worldwide managing director of Bain & Company and chairman and cofounder of The Bridgespan Group.), W. J. McNerney Jr. (retired chairman of The Boeing Company), Alan Horn (Walt Disney Studios Chairman) and Mary Callahan (CEO of J.P. Morgan Asset Management). Sunil Bharti led Bharti Enterprises work in businesses such as financial services, telecom, agriculture and retail. This group operates in over 20 nations across Africa and Asia

PTR (Pakke Tiger Reserve) in AP bags the ‘India Biodiversity Award’ 2016

On 22nd May 2016, PTR (Pakke Tiger Reserve) in AP bagged the ‘India Biodiversity Award’ 2016. This Tiger Reserve is in the East-Kamend District of AP. The HNA (Hornbill Nest Adoption) Programme of this Reserve was given the award under the CTS (Conservation of threatened species) category. Also, the category IV BMC (Biodiversity Management Committee) award was given to Hong Niitii. The HNA is an association of NCF (Nature Conservation Foundation), SFD (State Forest Departments) and Ghora-Aabhe Society. As per this project, urban citizens donate monetary funds for the protection of the hornbill nests across the Tiger Reserve.
