SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Summit 2016 concluded
The 2016 SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Summit concluded in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent on 24th June 2016. It was a two-day event that took place under Uzbekistan’s presidency. During this summit, Pakistan and India signed a MO (Memorandum of Obligations). Additionally, this signing signified the formal SCO joining process as full-time member. Full-time memberships are expected to be completed before next meeting in 2017 at Astana. SCO is a political, military and economic organization from Eurasia. It was established in 2001 by leaders of Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Furthermore, SCO was previously known as Shanghai Five before membership of Uzbekistan.
Toshihiro Suzuki appointed as Suzuki Motors CEO
Toshihiro Suzuki was appointed as Suzuki Motors next CEO (Chief Executive Officer) on 29th June 2016. This appointment was made after the announcement of Osamu Suzuki. Osamu declined the position of CEO and take responsibility of the incorrect testing techniques used by the automaker for calculation of vehicle mileage. Osamu Suzuki (Present Suzuki Motor Chairman) is the father of Toshihiro Suzuki. Till now, Toshihiro served as the Senior MD (Managing Director) of SMC. He started his journey with SM in 1994. SM is an MNC from Japan. It deals in manufacture of automobiles, motorcycles, four-wheelers, marine engines, all-terrain vehicles etc.
Navy inaugurates Indigenous developed Heavyweight Torpedo named ‘Varunastra’
Indian Navy inaugurated the Indigenous developed Heavyweight Torpedo named ‘Varunastra’ on 29th June 2016. Defense Minister of India Manohar Parrikar handed the Torpedo to Indian Navy. With this development, India becomes one of only 8 nations having the capabilities of designing as well as developing heavyweight torpedos. The designing and development of the torpedo was done by NST (Naval Science and Technological) laboratory. Furthermore, 95 percent contents of the torpedo are indigenous. Overall weight of the torpedo is about 1.25 tonnes. It can carry up to 250 kilograms of explosives and move at up to 40 miles/hr. speed. The torpedo has the capacity of targeting stealth, healthy and quiet submarines both across littoral and deep waters. Furthermore, it also works in intense countermeasure atmospheres.
India Post starts a scheme named ‘My Stamp’ for corporates and individuals
India Post opened up a new scheme named ‘My Stamp’ for corporates and individuals. It is a customized printing scheme wherein any corporate entity or an individual can print their logos or photos inside postage stamps. The price of this scheme is INR 12 Lacs. This scheme was taken into consideration after several demands from institutions such as Western Union, AHC (Allahabad High Court), SNDT etc.
Barak-8 missile, co-developed by India and Israel successfully test-fired
Barak-8, a missile co-developed by India and Israel was successfully test-fired. It was a MR-SAM (medium range surface-to-air missile) test-fired from an ITR (Integrated Test Range) at the Chandipur mobile launcher across Odessa Coast. IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries) together with DRDL (Defense Research Development Laboratory) co-developed the missile. Additionally, Barak-8 system also includes threat-alert Radar (MF STAR) and a MFS (Multi-Functional Surveillance) for tracking, guidance and detection of this missile. Furthermore, the missile provides its users capability of neutralizing aerial threats.
