WEF (World Economic Forum) releases the HCR (Human Capital Report) 2016

The WEF released its annual HCR (Human Capital Report) 2016 on 28th June 2016. This report was prepared in collaboration with Mercer. Mercer is a global consulting firm from America. It provides human capital as well as associated financial services to its clients. Furthermore, the report analyses the current scenario and presents recommendations. Their analysis is focused on issues or schemes that can create better educational policy designs as well as workforce planning for the future. A total of 130 nations are ranked in this HCI (Human Capital Index). The top 10 nations and their ranking as per this index were Finland (1), Norway (2), Switzerland (3), Japan (4), Sweden (5), New Zealand (6), Denmark (7), Netherlands (8), Canada (9) and Belgium (10). India secured the 105th position in this index.

NS Vishwanathan selected as RBI (Reserve Bank of India) Deputy Governor

The ACC (Appointments Committee of the Cabinet) announced on 28th June 2016 that NS Vishwanathan has been selected as the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) Deputy Governor. Vishwanathan will be succeeding Harur Khan after his retirement on 3rd July 2016. Prior to this, Vishwanathan acted as RBI’s Principal Chief GM at the NBS (Non-banking Supervision) department. Additionally, he is also RBI’s Executive Director since 2014. His previous companies where he worked included PHB (Punjab National Bank), Dena Bank and IFCI. Furthermore, RBI has a provision for 4 Deputy Governors.

World Bank approved 201.50 million dollars for TEQ (Technical Education Quality Improvement) Projects in India

On 24th June 2016, World Bank approved 201.50 million (US) dollars for TEQ (Technical Education Quality Improvement) Projects in India. The decision came from the WB’s Executive Director’s Board. The project (TEQIP III) will help in improving the engineering educational quality across selected Indian states. Furthermore, the project will aim to improve the quality as well as equity across the participating engineering institutes. Additionally, the project’s maturity period will be 25 years with 5 years of grace period.

Ukf M. Schneider appointed as Nestle CEO

Food & Beverage MNC Nestle announced the name of its new CEO on 27th June 2016. Ukf M. Schneider was appointed as Nestle CEO (Chief Executive Officer). Schneider is currently the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Fresenius. He will be resuming office from 1st Sep 2016 onwards. He will take over as CEO from 1st January 2017 onwards. Furthermore, Mark will be succeeding Paul Bulke. After 1922, Schneider became the only outsider CEO of Nestle.

PMSMA (Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan) launched

The government of India launched PMSMA (Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan) during the last week of June 2016. It is a scheme with the objective of boosting healthcare facilities as well as providing better treatment options for poor women who are pregnant.  Additionally, the scheme aims to protect pregnant mothers-to-be from various infectious diseases. As per this scheme, pregnant women will be provided with free health check-ups as well as necessary treatments on the 9th of each month. This facility can be availed by pregnant ladies across every Indian government hospital.
