Argentina Women team on 27th June 2016 grabbed the 2016 CT (Champions Trophy) Hockey title. During the final match, Argentina defeated Netherlands 2-1 to win the title. Netherlands were the Olympic champions and reigning world leaders before this. Final match took place at the LVHTC (Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre) in London, United Kingdom. Additionally, it was Argentina’s 3rd successive title as well as 7th title overall. Furthermore, Captain of Argentina Carla Rebecchi was the championships’ top scorer with seven goals. Also, best goalkeeper award was given to Joyce Sombroek from Netherland. Bronze medal was won by USA who defeated Australia.
Futurist and writer Alvin Toffler passed away
Alvin Toffler, famous futurist and writer died on 27th June 2016 at Los Angeles, US. He was of 87 years old. He wrote the famous book, ‘Future Shock’. His book outlined the anxiety of people due to social changes across the 1960s. Alvin was popular for his various works on modern technologies and their effect on social changes. Furthermore, some of his famous works were across communication revolution as well as digital revolution highlighting their effects across cultures worldwide. Additionally, his earlier works were focused across technological impact, which he labeled as ‘information overload’. Alvin’s writings and ideas significantly influenced the thinking pattern of government and business leaders worldwide. He graduated from NYU (New York University) in 1950.
Rodrigo Duterte elected as president of Philippines
On 30th June 2016, Rodrigo Duterte was elected as 16th president of Philippines. The event took place inside the Manila presidential palace. He will be serving for a 6 year term. Duterte will be the nation’s 1st Mindanaoan president. Rodrigo will be succeeding Benigno Aquino-III. Rodrigo is a Firebrand leader and has many anti-criminal schemes under his kitty. He plans to restart death penalty system, shoot-to-kill orders and bounty system. He served as the Mayor of Davao. Under his mayor ship, crime rates in Davao dropped dramatically. Additionally, he is an established lawyer.
World Bank and ISAC (International Solar Alliance Cell) signed declaration for the promotion of Solar Energy
The ISA Cell (Interim Administrative Cell of the International Solar Alliance) together with World Bank signed a declaration for the promotion of solar energy across globe. The event took place on 30th June 2016. The signing if this declaration took place during JY Kim’s (World Bank President) visit to India during June 2016. Furthermore, Onno Ruhl (World Bank’s India Country Director) and Upendra Tripathy (Union Ministry Secretary for New and Renewable Energy) were the Indian counterparts during the signing of this declaration. Additionally, the major highlights of this declaration included joint work for development of a roadmap for mobilizing financing. Also, other objectives were development of financial instruments. Furthermore, World Bank will be providing knowledge transfer and technical assistance to support ISA plans. To sum up, this joint declaration between WB and ISA will ensure better financial support for globalization of solar energy.
